Public Service Event Communication
Verde Valley Amateur Radio Association

General Information

Part 97 of the FCC Rules for Amateur Radio state that the first of five basic principles on the basis and purpose of amateur radio is, "Recognition and enhancement of the value of the amateur service to the public as a voluntary, noncommercial communication service, particularly with respect to providing emergency communications [97.1(a)]"

Accordingly, in conjunction with the Yavapai Amateur Radio Club and the Verde Valley Amateur Radio Club, members participate on a regular basis in communication support to various activities in Yavapai County .  Support of these activities provides good training for the time when ARES/RACES is needed in times of actual emergencies.  Some of these events are:

54-Mile Loop Fun Run Challenge Contact

America's Walk for Diabetes Contact

Groom Creek Community Classic Contact

March of Dimes Walk

Prescott Air Fair Contact

Prescott Parades

Prescott Road Rally Contact

Prescott Valley World Art Festival  Contact

Tour D' Pee Vee

Whiskey Row Marathon Contact

Yavapai County Fair  Contact

Yavapai County Health Fair  Contact

In addition to the public service events listed above, the primary focus of ARES/RACES is supporting our served agencies.  These include:

All Cities and Towns in Yavapai County

American Red Cross

Fire Departments

US Forest Service Fire center

Yavapai County Community Health Services

Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management

The Verde Valley Amateur Radio Association has been dedicated to public service since its inception in 1976. Working on Special Event Communications such as parades, road rallies, fairs, marathons, and other events for local non-profit organizations.

We hope "event" communications never becomes "emergency" communications, but this service offers all of us the opportunity to prepare for emergency service while helping our community in the process. It is also an excellent way for us to show people what ham radio is all about and what fun we have with it.

For upcoming events, please see the Calendar.
