Notice: Change of Meeting Place and Time for the VVARA Meeting
May 14, 2008

VVARA Meeting Notice to All Members!

We have had to move the VVARA meeting up one week to May 14th as the conference room at the Cottonwood Public Safety Building was not available on our regular meeting date. So please mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 14th and come and join us. The Cottonwood Public Safety Building is located at 6th Street and Aspen.

Some of us will be having dinner at the Casa Bonita Mexican restaurant across the street from the intersection of Highway 260 and Highway 89-A in Cottonwood about 5:30 p.m. so please join us there for some ham radio chat and some Mexican food or refreshments before the meeting.

The doors of the Public Safety Bldg. should be open by 6:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m.

We will be showing a series of photos from the recent "expedition" by several of our members to the Vultee air crash site on the mesa above Sedona. This airplane crash occurred back in Jan. 1938. We will learn about its history and will see several shots of parts of the rusted air frame, which are dramatic evidence of this tragic event.

Ernie Cummings has put together a very nice Power Point photo tribute to the "A-Team" who worked to put up an elaborate beam antenna and tower at Dick Glover's home in Camp Verde. This will be our second presentation. We hope to have Dick Glover, W4AOP, narrate this presentation.

A ham friend of Norman Vandiver, Ian Watson, VK3BGE, will be visiting his son and daughter-in-law in Clarkdale from Australia that week and we hope to have him stop by and talk to us on some of his experiences being a ham operator from "down under". Ian lives in the town of Bundoora on the outskirts of Melbourne.

We will be also discussing the upcoming 2nd Annual Prescott Ham Fest which will be held at the Granite Mountain Middle School on Sat. May 31st. This is a joint swap meet by both the Verde Valley Amateur Radio Assn. and the Yavapai Amateur Radio Club. Set up will be early on Sat. morning and Ham Fest will end about 2 p.m. VEE Amateur Radio License exams will take place for all classes of license at 9 a.m. sharp. So gather your old and excess ham gear and bring it to Prescott for the Ham Fest on May 31st. Please check our club website VVARA.org for all the details on this joint ham fest.

I hope to see many of you at the meeting as it promises to be a good one!

Breaking News!... Bill Martens, K7YKN, submitted his resignation this past week as he will be moving out of state soon and will not be able to fulfill his duties as Treasurer.

We will certainly miss Bill and all of the great work he has done for the club this year.

Bill has also offered to donate an ICOM 725 HF transciever and accessories to the club and I have told him that we would gladly accept his gift. This radio will be either auctioned at a future meeting or will be put up for sale at the upcoming Ham Fest with the proceeds going to the VVARA.

We want to thank Bill both for his outstanding service to the club and his generosity. We wish him all the best in his future travels and endeavors.

Please contact me if one of you might be able to take on the Treasurer's duties for the rest of the year. Most of what is needed now is taking dues from new members, making periodic deposits to the bank and paying bills as they are received. For the time being, please send any membership forms, dues, etc. to my address shown above. I will need help with this important office so please give this serious consideration.
