I thought you might be interested in this installation. I use my Icom 208 in several cars, two of
which have the standard cup holders. The cup holder measures about 3-1/4" in diameter. My motor
home is on a Ford E450 chassis and there is very little if any room to mount a radio that can be
easily removed! I took a 3" diameter PVC pipe, cut it 3" in length and covered it with a piece of indoor / outdoor carpeting using contact cement. I then attached it to small piece of 1/4" plywood base using an L bracket on the inside of the PVC and Carpenter's Goop glued to the plywood. I mounted the 208 to the wood base and I finally have a removable mount that also works in my Yukon! The wood base is cantilevered so that I have to place the PVC cup holder mount into a small wooden box, I made. I then can use it as a base station. I use Anderson Power Poles for the connections so the swapping of cars is quite easy. So far, so good. I borrowed the idea from QST some months ago, that had far more of an installation than I needed. Not a lot of room in our modern day cars for radio installations that can be easily removed. The Icom 208 has a removable face plate, but this also needs to be attached some where. Del KD7ZXB
