Introduction

The FCC Amateur Radio License Exams are currently administered at three different locations, by two different Volunteer Examiner (VE) groups, in the Prescott / Cottonwood area. They are, in no particular order:

1.) The Yavapai Amateur Radio Club sponsored group, which usually administers the exams at The Jeep Posse building, in the Pioneer Park Complex, located at 1200 Commerce Drive, Prescott, Arizona, or at Embry Riddle University, located on the north side of Prescott, Arizona.  This group is lead by Mary Vince (AB7NK), who can be reached at (928) 775-2158, or via e-mail at ab7nk@arrl.net

and

2.) An independent Volunteer Examiner group (known as the Rimrock Group), which usually administers the exams at the new fire station in Rimrock, Arizona.  Driving directions are: Take the McGuireville exit (#293) off of I-17. Go northeast towards McGuireville, driving about 1.5 miles to the new fire station located on the west side of the road.  This group is led by Mark Coker (KC7JOG), who can be reached at (928)567-5446, or via e-mail at kc7jog@webtv.net

What To Bring

No matter what class of license exam you plan to take, or which VE group / location you plan to utilize, you will need to bring the following items with you:

1.) If you are currently unlicensed, you will be taking the Technician Class Exam, and will only need to bring the following items: Photo ID and $14.00 (license examination fee), Social Security Number, as well as sharpened #2 pencils, and a calculator if you wish to use one (memory must be cleared prior to taking the examination).

2.) If you are upgrading to a higher class of license (General Class or Amateur Extra Class) you will need to bring the following items: Photo ID, $14.00 (license examination fee), original and one photocopy of your current FCC license, original and photocopy of any valid CSCE's you may have from prior testing sessions, sharpened #2 pencils, and a calculator if you wish to use one (memory must be cleared prior to taking the examination).

Note: You may take multiple examinations at one session for $14.00. For example, if you are unlicensed, and if you want to test for the General Class License, you will first have to pass the Technician Class license examination, before being allowed to take the General Class license examination, but your license fee of $14.00 covers the entire testing session, no matter the number of examinations you take at that session. Exams are graded immediately after they are taken, on the spot, and if you pass the Technician Class exam, you are issued a CSCE (Certificate of Successfull Completion of Exam), which is then used to permit you to immediately take the General Class exam. Some applicants have even taken all three exams in one session (Technician, General, Amateur Extra), assuming they pass the first two exams for Technician Class and General Class. Again, the license fee for taking all three exams in one session is still only $14.00 total.

*** There will be a series of YARC sponsored classes held in support of the Embry Riddle testing dates shown above. You do NOT have to attend the YARC sponsored Technician, General, or Extra classes to attend these testing sessions. For more information about the classes, contact Jack (W7JLC) at jscra@cableone.net   Thanks to Embry-Riddle's Eagle Amateur Radio Club for providing our testing facilities.
All class of license's will be tested at each session & even though walk-ins are allowed at all of the above examination sessions, please contact the group leader of the session you are planning to attend if at all possible. That way the VE's can better plan for the number of applicants that will be attending.
