Happy New Year to all of our members! We start the year with the installation of our new officers, V.P., Chris Hancock, KC6UUG, Secretary, Tom Schrum, K7NII, Treasurer, Bill Martens, K7YKN, and myself. The meeting will be at the Cottonwood Public Safety Building conference room next Wednesday, Jan. 16th at 7 p.m. The doors will be open by 6:30 p.m. Some of us will be stopping by the Casa Bonita restaurant (next to Giant gas station just after Highway 260 intersects with 89-A) around 5:30 p.m. for Mexican food. Come and join us for dinner and a chance to meet our speaker before the meeting. We are scheduled to have a most interesting Powerpoint presentation by Mr. Bob Wertz, NF7E, who will be coming down from Flagstaff to talk to us about a DXpedition he and three of his fellow hams planned and carried out on the small island of Ushagat, off the coast of Alaska. Bob is an avid DXer and contester who was also involved in starting up the annual "Route 66 on the Air" special event and has even been on the cover of CQ magazine back in 2004. Bob will be giving his talk just after the start of the meeting so come early in order not the miss his presentation. There will be a changeover to our new Treasurer, Bill Martens, K7YKN, from our 2007 Treasurer, Dick Courtney, so until the necessary bank forms are completed, please continue to send your 2008 dues to: Dick Courtney, KE7DTX, 2570 Solar View Drive, Chino Valley, AZ 86323. Dues are still $20 for regular members and $10 for family (with a ham license) and associate memberships (without a ham license). I would like to thank those who sent in their dues early as this will make the transition easier for both Dick and Bill. Please make all checks or money orders out to "V V A R A". Club hats and patches will be available at the meeting and we will be passing out the newly updated 2008 VVARA Membership Directories. By the way, we had a very nice turnout for the club's Christmas Luncheon at the Beaver Creek Golf and Country Club on Dec. 8th, with 46 club members in attendance. Many thanks go to Bob and Starla Thompson for buying the raffle prizes and for doing the drawing of names at the party. The food at the Ranch House restaurant was very good and all expressed that they really enjoyed our VVARA pre-Christmas get-together. I would like to take this opportunity to again wish you all a Very Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year! Mel
