VVARA Meeting Notice for
February, 2008
We hope to see you at our next monthly club meeting
at the Cottonwood Public Safety Building conference room (6th Street &
Aspen) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday February
20th. Doors open about 6:30 p.m.
Some of us will be stopping by the new Pizza Hut in
Cottonwood (just down Main Street from Walgreens) for pizza and/or wings about
5:30 p.m. before heading to the meeting. Come by and join us for some
dinner and a pre-meeting chat with your fellow hams.
Ernie Cummings, K6XF, will be
our speaker and will be presenting a Power Point slide show on the use of Ham
Radio in Sailplanes and Gliding and will be discussing "flying for fun", soaring
contests for award badges, and just what goes into record setting high altitude
glider flights. Ernie is an experienced glider pilot has had lots
of adventures flying along the eastern Sierras. He will be taking
questions following his presentation. This promises to be a
very interesting and fun presentation so be sure to come early to hear his
talk.
Club Dues: Please send your
2008 dues to our new Treasurer at the following address:
William G. Martens, K7YKN, Treasurer
Verde
Valley Amateur Radio Assn.
P.O.
Box 4461
Cottonwood, AZ 86326
Your dues are needed to maintain, update and
repair your club repeater on Mingus Mountain and to support a variety of
club activities throughout the year. Funds go to pay our Liability and
Equipment insurance and for
dues to ARCA and AZ Corp. Commission fees and for
printing and distributing club newsletters & membership directories and
for fees for our club website (www.vvara.org). The club
also provides food and refreshments for our members at the annual
Field Day picnic and at Ham Fests during the year. We pay
for free clip-on name tags for all of our members when they join. Our
Sunshine commitee also sends out Get Well and condolence cards and
flowers as needed throughout the year.
Dues are still $20 for Full
members and $10 for Family members (with an FCC Call) and Associate
members, who wish to support the club but do not have a ham
license. We ask that you make out dues checks or money
orders to "V V A R A". If you have any changes
in your Directory information (new e-mail, phone, etc) just go to the club
website www.vvara.org and fill out the form for
membership renewal.
We have not received dues
from many of our members this year, so please try to send them in before
the end of the month. If you wish, you can pay your dues in person at
the meeting.
Thank you and we will look forward to seeing
you on Feb. 20th in Cottonwood.

I have added a note from Mike Wingate, WA6SLE,
regarding a new repeater that is now available to our members.
I just wanted
make sure all know that it is OK for VVARA members to use the KF6FM 147.100
repeater located on Squaw
Peak.
It has great coverage and when the 147.220 is in use; folks could go over to the
Squaw Pk. machine! It transmits on 147.100, receives on 147.700 and has a
PL tone of 131.8Hz. This would also give us a work around if power goes
down on Mingus for any length of time, as the site is solar powered. My
only request is that no nets be held on it as that would eat a lot of power,
during the summer no problem as I have more solar than I need, during winter
normal ham traffic would not hurt it either, just long winded nets.
Anyhow; from Tim KF6FM and myself welcome aboard to all in the
VVARA. 73 Mike
